The Silver Fox Mysteries

Life is supposed to get easier the older you get, right?

After a life of world travel and jujitsu competitions, retired museum curator, Dorothy Claes, is ready for a quiet life. Despite the rambunctious antics of her feline companion, Solomon, taking over the antique shop her late-father left her seems like the perfect way to settle down.

But when a mysterious stranger comes to call, spinning tales of magical artifacts, and the organization in charge of them, life becomes anything but quiet.
With Solomon in tow, Dorothy heads out on her first mission: Discover, Obtain, and Neutralize the artifact that is causing pedigree cats in Paris to disappear and their owners’ memories to be wiped before it ends up in the hands of someone far more sinister.

I appreciated that cats and cat legends feature prominently in the story, but that it's the humans who have to gather clues and solve the mystery. If you read this book with your fur-baby on your lap, as I did, you'll find yourself giving him or her extra snuggles as the mystery reaches its climax and you wonder whether the missing kitties will make it home safely from... well, I won't give that away. 😉 I also liked that Dorothy, a widow, has some chances to feel nostalgic for her deceased husband, but that she is also independent, embracing this new chapter of her life. For me, the end came too soon. I wanted more time to get to know Dorothy, Aaron, and the mysterious Silver Foxes. Some characters are only introduced briefly, and we don't get a chance to connect with them before they're gone. On the plus side, though, this makes for fast pacing and a page-turning plot that quickly escalates to a tense climax. A quick read with a fun mix of mystical magic, danger, adventure, cute cats, tea, and French pastry.

Great cozy mystery to read on a rainy night. I liked that the heroine, Dorothy Claes, isn't your typical 30-something that I normally see in the genre. She has a great wry sense of humor that had me giggling throughout the story. Her cat, Solomon, also adds lots of fun to the adventure without overshadowing the main character.

I read the first book, Dorothy Claes and the Prisoner of Themeni, on a friend's recommendation, and fell in love with both Dorothy and Solomon. I am a sucker for well written, well-developed characters. This book satisfies my need as a reader in every way. The book progresses Dorothy into a new case and leaves beautiful little plot tidbits for future development. I love the way Solomon is developed in this book

This book is just as exciting, fast-paced and enjoyable as the previous one, but explores a different cultural legend and poses a new mystery to solve. It is a very short novel, so we don’t get the chance to develop certain characters, especially the new cast we see in this book. However, like before, you need to appreciate that such a well-written story has been condensed into such a short book without hindering content or excitement from the reader’s end, which definitely deserves another shout out!

This mystery downright pulled me into its depths and I found my heart palpitating at the same rate as Dorothy’s and Solomon’s (maybe not Solomon, he is always cool). The author succeeded in bringing the magic of Icelandic folklore into the mordern chaos and weaving it into something that becomes memorable. I am always on the lookout for some enthralling mystery series, this seems to be a pretty promising one and I would like to read more about Dorothy’s and Solomon’s adventures.

I would just like to start off by saying that Solomon is one of the best characters in literary existence. That cat is amazing, and I can just picture him as I read. Ok, back to point. Well, what can I say, I absolutely loved this mystery. Ms Morgan definitely did her research in order to make this happen, and even though it is short compared to most novels in today’s day and age, she has still managed to create an amazing and engaging story, as well as a deep mystery. Now that’s real talent.
